About the BSA Access CommitteeMeetingsThe BSA Access Committee meetings are held the fourth Wednesday of the month at The Architects Building, 52 Broad Street in Boston, noon–1:30.About the CommitteeThe Boston Society of Architects (BSA) Access Committee is a group of interested design professionals and advocates who share the Committee’s mission to enhance understanding among all professionals in the building industry of the state and federal accessible design and construction standards—what they are, why they are important, and their impact on the design process. Committee membership is open to all who are interested whether you are a member of the BSA or not. You may attend meetings and receive meeting minutes. Meetings are typically held the 4th Wednesday of the month, noon–1:30pm, at The Architects Building, 52 Broad Street, Boston. Lunch is provided and there is no cost. The BSA Access Committee officially began in December 2003. In 2004 the Committee focused on establishing and advertising this website and organizing seminars for architects and designers on accessible design. Other initiatives under discussion include developing an NCARB Monograph on accessible design; identifying useful resources for architects; developing training on how to more constructively engage people with disabilities in design projects; providing insight into procedures and decisions of the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board; and collecting best practice examples. After basic accessibility resources are established to help architects understand minimum access code requirements, the Committee will expand its mission to encompass universal design encouraging a design process that embraces the diversity of people's changing needs and abilities. If you have topics and questions you would like the Committee to address, resources to add or suggestions for presentations, please contact us.
