Agenda:

This month we look at construction and demolition waste management presented
by Vance Freymann Director of Project Development for Consigli
Construction, based in Milford, Mass. Vance will be joined by Jim McQuade
from the Mass Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Practically every waste stream generated during demolition or construction
is recyclable, including concrete, masonry, wood, metals, roofing materials,
and others. In most cases the cost of recycling is less than disposal. The
key to successful jobsite waste reduction is early planning and partnering
between the owner, architect, and contractor to fully integrate recycling
into the project.

The Massachusetts DEP is now drafting regulations that will ban construction
and demolition (C&D) waste from state landfills beginning in 2004. To
assist DEP with its efforts, Consigli is heading a pioneering pilot study of
C&D source separation for the Massachusetts DEP, and has implemented waste
reduction planning on all of its jobsites.

This presentation will provide case studies and document the results of
successful C&D waste reduction and recycling partnerships. The relevance of
this topic to architects and engineers includes the following issues:

We look forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday.  Coffee and
breakfast treats provided as always.
