Announcements: Updates on the following items -

• Green Roundtable: Sustainable Building Summit - Joint Venture
• Green Project Tour Committee:
  • We are still looking for a group leader...
    
• Ten Shades of Green Exhibit:
  • Deane Rykerson has been in discussion with the BAC (Boston Architectural Center) to host the exhibit.
  • The target date for the exhibit is September 2002.
  • Contributions and sponsorship is still needed so please contact Deane for more information.
  • There is also a need to publicize the event so any assistance would be appreciated.
    

Focus Topic: Solar and Light in Green Architecture

"The effort to install photovoltaics on the Citicorp Tower in Manhattan" (Click for presentation slides)

• 2 years ago The Stubbins Associates reinvigorated a solar project that was started in the 1970s to put solar panels on the Citicorp Tower in Manhattan.
• Chris discussed the history of the building as well as the progress leading up to the latest efforts.
• The goals, as outlined, were to reduce the buildings energy consuption.
  • Reflective skin (existing)
  • Daylighting
  • Shared cooling
• In conjunction w/ BP Solarex (largest solar panel manufacturer) they proposed a 25,000 sq ft array.
• Key lessons:
  • Search for ways to offset costs
    • Utility companies, NYSERDA, NY State Energy Grant, etc.
  • Emphasize the importance of incorporating the "cost-cutting" for the long term building life by upfornt design implementation.
