Reports on conferences, events: Liveable Communities (JFK Library 9 September)-well attended by a broad spectrum of professions on planning for a sustainable future. Ongoing work by the Civic Initiative for a Livable New England. Sustainable Development Forum (MIT 25 September)-very well attended focused on planning on a regional basis. Sponsored by New Ecology, Inc.
Upcoming events: Bill McDonough BPL 27 September, also at Kennedy School of Government Harvard University 11 October. Ralph Nader at the Fleet Center 1 October Build Boston 14-16 November World Trade Center - including workshops on Green Building and Design NESEA at Tufts University 22-24 March 2001 Building Energy Conference
Ongoing projects: The green questionaire is about to be isssued to BSA member firms to start a directory of green resources for our area.
November COTE meeting: A special meeting will be held at Build Boston on Tuesday 14 November from 6 to 8 PM in the Congress Room. At this meeting, we will honor individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions in furthering green building and design. PLEASE SUBMIT NOMINATIONS BY EMAIL ASAP.
Request for information Is there a journal that has an overview of the latest in European technology (not peer-reviewed) What is the best website that compiles sustainable guidelines?
Presentation by Liz Cordero: Green Building Design Guidelines. Her presentation gave an excellent overview of a wide variety of design guidelines that define principles and identify goals of green building and sustainability.
South Boston Waterfront: strategies for pushing this plan towards a more sustainable outcome such as Battery Park City in New York were discussed. An op-ed piece in the newspaper was mentioned.
The Green Olympics: the process and results of the Australian efforts were presented and discussed.
