COTE Meeting Minutes for October 2002

Announcements:
1. The 10 Shades of Green exhibit will open at the McCormick Gallery of the BAC on September 26 and run through November 1. An opening night reception and lecture will be held on October 2, 2002 beginning at 6:00p. Please see the newly updated COTE website for further details.

2. The month of September's COTE presentation will be held as a joint sponsored event with the BSA's Building Envelope Committee. Chris Schaffner of ARUP will present his firm's work on the analysis of double skin facade technologies. The presentation will be held at the Building Envelope committee's meeting on Monday, September 23 at 4:30p at the BSA Building.

3. New Ecology, Inc. is sponsoring:
THIRD ANNUAL REGIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FORUM: A CLOSER EXAMINATION OFTHE ISSUES
When: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2002, 8am to 6:30pm
Where: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Building 10, Room 250

4. The last COTE charrettes looked at the Spectacle Island Visitor Center. Members engaged in a dialogue about the project and offered their perspectives on strategies for greening the building. If would like continue the dialogue and provide input, please contact:

New Business
The September COTE meeting focused on the development of the Committee's direction and was primarily dedicated to an open discussion of ideas to better understand where the membership's passion lie. Some thoughts that were discussed fell under the following categories:

Curriculum / Presentations

Collaboration

Code

Civic Initiative for a Livable New England

Sub-Committee Projects


COTE Website Development and Maintenance

A more in-depth discussion focused on the Committee's ability to promote a sustainable agenda in this region. It was decided that it would be helpful to analyze other successful regions of the country. The next meeting will be devoted to committee member reports summarizing sustainable initiatives, resources and programs in the following locales:

There will also be a report on the current state of sustainable initiatives and resources In the Boston Metropolitan area.
