Some Notes on Glazing Replacement in Historic Facades

Rebecca Williams of the National Trust for Historic Preservation spoke about the Trust's continuing efforts to help owners of historic buildings save on energy use while making envelope improvements consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. Rebecca is particularly focused on conserving existing wood windows. The Trust is currently working with NCPTT on a 3-phase research project about energy efficiency of wood windows. The first phase develops and evaluates field test procedures for wood windows. The centerpiece of the study concentrates on windows at the Trust's headquarters building at DuPont Circle in Washington. Finally, NCPTT will undertake a life-cycle cost analysis that spans manufacture to disposal of historic wood windows.

Rebecca distributed a sheet produced by the Trust of useful sites dedicated to energy conservation studies of historic wood windows.
